Vaccine Guidelines Unchanged

The headlines can be dizzying and it is easy to be scared searching vaccine information online.  Many of you may be feeling confused about what immunizations your child should be getting or what is safe.  Fortunately this week the Virginia Department of Health and the AAP have reaffirmed their recommendations, and are both aligned in standing by the same information that you have been getting from us throughout your child’s life.  The current childhood immunization schedule remains unchanged.  In regard to the MMR vaccine, the fact that our community has trusted in the research and follows the recommended guidelines is a major success story.  Despite a massive outbreak of measles in an unvaccinated pocket of Buckingham and Cumberland counties this summer, we never saw cases spread into surrounding Albemarle and Fluvanna counties.  As we head into another school year, it is a relief to know that the same state vaccination standards will help support a healthy school community and allow our students to flourish.  Read more from the latest VDH press release here.
