Sometimes life just feels impossible. I keep this photo by my desk to help ground me when I find myself overwhelmed by what’s in front of me. And as parents, we have all been there! When your kids are sick, it can bring your entire family life to a halt. Especially with rising health care premiums, and society trying very hard to undermine the trust that you have in us, we understand the temptation to find short cuts. Many insurance companies are pushing flashy Telehealth visits or it can feel easier to just utilize an urgent care center.
There are so many important reasons to rely on us when you have concerns about your child!
1. Having a medical home where your child is seen regularly leads to better care! There is less risk for medical errors or for things to be missed. Plus we can easily review old notes and keep track of the big picture like “How many ear infections does this make? Is it time to think about ear tubes?” Or get the details right when there are complicated illnesses!
2. Having non-pediatric providers or Telehealth visits can lead to harm! We have had many follow up visits and seen things like a strep rash being treated with steroids or an antibiotic given for an “ear infection” when there was something much more serious going on. We all have felt desperate for a sick child to get better, and there are many things that need to be treated with antibiotics, but they change good bacteria in our bodies and can cause harm if you don’t need them. No Telehealth visit can replace an exam in person and its always worth the effort to get an accurate assessment from the start.
3. With the latest addition to our PAC family, all of our providers are parents understand how it feels to worry about your child! We are always looking for ways to make your life easier. Leaving the hospital and bringing on new providers has greatly increased our ability to see more patients and it is rare to not get you in for a same day appointment especially when you call during the day but even the evenings often have unused appointments. Nothing is always perfect, but we are committed to bringing you the best care for your child all throughout the year!
