Carlos E. Armengol, Jr., M.D., FAAP
Dr. Armengol grew up in Miami, Florida. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia. He earned his medical degree from the University of South Florida, College of Medicine, then completed his pediatric residency at the University of Virginia Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Armengol started with Pediatric associates in 1998. He has a special interest in urinary tract infections and streptococcal infections in children. He volunteers at the Barrett Early Learning Center and Camp Holiday Trails.
He is an avid cyclist and has a weakness for chocolate. He loves doing outdoor activities with his twin boys.
Lori W. Balaban, M.D., FAAP
Dr. Balaban practices at our Downtown office. She attended the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She earned her medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, then completed her residency at the University of Virginia Department of Pediatrics.
Gemila H. Bouber, MD, FAAP
Dr. Bouber grew up in Brookline, MA. She attended the University of Virginia for both college and medical school. She completed her pediatric residency at Strong memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York and joined a local pediatric practice, Chili Pediatrics for eight years. She joined Pediatric Associates in 2010. Her interests include the prevention and treatment of pediatric obesity and adolescent gynecology.
She has one daughter, Layla. Outside of the office, Dr. Bouber enjoys international travel, snorkeling, hiking, reading, spending time with her family, cooking, volleyball and gardening.
Alaina Brown, MD, FAAP
Dr. Brown grew up in Chantilly, Virginia. She attended the University of Delaware for her undergraduate honors degree and the University of Virginia for Medical School. She completed her pediatric residency at Duke University. She spent a year working as a newborn nursery physician in Durham, NC before joining Pediatric Associates in 2012.
Dr. Brown is an avid Washington sports fan. In her spare time, she enjoys singing, playing soccer and volunteering at the Charlottesville Free Clinic. She has two toddler Godchildren that she loves to dote on.
Sheila F. Davis, M.D., FAAP
Dr. Davis grew up outside of Baltimore, Maryland. She attended Bucknell University, then spent two years working in research at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. She attended the University of Virginia School of Medicine, then completed her pediatric residency at the University of Rochester. She returned to Charlottesville in 1994 and joined Pediatric Associates. She enjoys general pediatrics, especially well child care from infancy through adolescence. She is very involved with the Albemarle High School Band Boosters and acts as the pediatric chaperone on their yearly band trip. She is involved with Charlottesville Community Attention Foster Families.
Dr. Davis and her husband, Jeff, have three children, Bryant, Curtis and Maura. They enjoy traveling, hiking and other outdoor activities. She enjoys reading, music and scrapbooking.
Teresa H. Hashisaki, M.D., FAAP
Dr. Hashisaki practices at our Downtown office. She attended David Lipscomb College, where she received her bachelor’s degree. Dr. Hashisaki earned her medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, then completed her pediatric residency training at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

Sarah E. Knight, MD, FAAP
Dr. Knight grew up in Gainesville, Florida. She attended college and medical school at the University of Florida and completed her pediatric residency at the University of Virginia. She started at Pediatric Associates in 2011. Dr. Knight has special interests in nutrition, obesity and global health. She has spent time volunteering in schools and clinics in the Dominican Republic, Malawi and Uganda. Dr. Knight’s husband is a physician, as well, and they are welcoming their first daughter, Eleanor, in the summer of 2013.
Outside the office, she enjoys bike riding, camping, hiking, music and travel. She sees patients in the Downtown office.
Katherine D. Mika, M.D., FAAP
Dr. Mika was born in Charlottesville (a native!) and raised in Radford, Virginia. She received her undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary in 1979. She, then attended the Medical School at the Medical College of Virginia, where she met and married her husband, Dr. David Mika, a Madison County native, who practices psychiatry in Charlottesville. She completed her pediatric residency at the Medical College of Georgia. She spent one year on the faculty at the Medical College of Georgia supervising residents in an outpatient clinic, practiced pediatrics in Culpeper , in the UVA Emergency room and in solo practice, before joining Pediatric Associates in 1995. She is especially interested in ADHD and breastfeeding support. Dr. Mika is involved in several organizations, including Trinity Presbyterian Church, where she is the projection tech at worship services. She is also the chairperson of the Martha Jefferson PHO Credentials Committee and a board member of the Charlottesville Chapter of the College of William and Mary alumni.
Dr. Mika has three children, Jason, Alison, Matthew and one grandson, Dalton. She enjoys gardening, sewing, reading, bicycling, water skiing, traveling and spending time with her family. Be sure to ask about her grandson when you see her.
L. Paige D’A. Perriello, M.D., FAAP
Dr. Perriello grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia. She graduated from Princeton University, where she played field hockey and lacrosse. After medical school at George Washington University, she completed residency at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. For two years after residency, she was a staff physician at Children’s Hospital of Boston before moving home to join Pediatric Associates in 2008. Dr. Perriello is interested in general pediatric and adolescent medicine, with special interests in sports medicine/concussion management and newborn/breastfeeding issues. She enjoys seeing the second, third and fourth generation of patients that her father cared for as a founding doctor at Pediatric Associates. Dr. Perriello volunteers her time as a board member at Children, Youth and Family Services and serves on the U.S. Lacrosse Sports, Science and Safety Committee.
Dr. Perriello and her husband have two daughters.
David N. Reynolds, M.D., FAAP
Dr. Reynolds, born and raised in Pennsylvania, attended Georgetown University for both college and medical school. He completed residency training at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia and served four years active duty as a Navy pediatrician. After completing military service in 1985, he joined Pediatric Associates. He has worked at our North office since it opened in 1996. Dr. Reynolds has served on various Martha Jefferson Hospital associated committees, including eight years as Chairman of the MJH Physician-Hospital Organization. He has also served on the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics as the Central Virginia representative on the Board of Directors. He is proud to be a loyal member of the Cove-Garden Ruritan Club since 1987.
Dr. Reynolds and his wife, Deborah, try their best to keep up with their five married daughters and, at last count, eight grandchildren.
A. Robert Trundle, M.D., FAAP
Dr. Trundle grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and went to Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. While there, he studied Spanish both on campus and in Salamanca, Spain, This started his life long interest in Spanish. He led hiking and biking trips for adolescents in the Pacific Northwest and Rockies while in college and continued working with children after graduation. He taught Spanish for four years at Hampton Roads Academy. He then attended Virginia Commonwealth University for his pre-med requirements, followed by medical school at the University of Virginia. He also completed his pediatric residency at UVA. Dr. Trundle sees patients in English and Spanish.
He volunteers as a camp doctor at Camp Holiday Trails and is on the board of the Foothills Child Advocacy Center. He has been married to his wife, Sarah, since he was a teacher and they have three children, Maggie, Liza and Shep. Dr. Trundle enjoys playing squash, kayaking and camping.
Paul P. Wisman, M.D., FAAP
Dr. Wisman practices at our Downtown office. He received his undergraduate education at The University of Virginia and the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. He earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, then completed his residency at the University of Virginia Department of Pediatrics.
Dr. Wisman has a specialty interest in asthma and children with allergies.
Karyn E. Wolfe, M.D., FAAP
Dr. Wolfe grew up in Powhatan, Virginia. She received her undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Virginia. She also completed her residency at the University of Virginia, officially designating her a “Triple Hoo.” She started at Pediatric Associates in 2005 after finishing her residency. Dr. Wolfe is especially interested in newborn care, well child care and adolescent care, including gynecology, mental health and eating disorders. She volunteers for the Women’s Committee at Martha Jefferson Hospital.
Dr. Wolfe has two children, Will and Elizabeth. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, exercising, scrapbooking and spending time with her family.
Marion Szwedo, M.D., cFAAP
Dr. Szwedo grew up in Virginia Beach. She attended the University of Virginia for both college and medical school. She completed her pediatric residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in the beautiful city of Charleston. She joined Pediatric Associates in 2014 after completing her residency. She loves taking care of children of all ages and has a special interest in infancy and early childhood. She also feels passionately about mental health and the prevention of childhood obesity.
Dr. Szwedo and her husband have one daughter, Grace. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, running, hiking, sewing and cooking.
Dr. Szwedo is seeing patients in west location.
Amanda Jones, M.D., FAAP
Dr. Jones is originally from Kingsport, TN. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Furman University in Greenville, SC. She spent time working abroad and later worked as a chemist for a pharmaceutical company before discovering her passion for medicine. She attended medical school at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She completed her pediatric residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She worked in private practice in Nashville, TN before jumping at the chance to relocate to Charlottesville, VA with her family. She is excited to be a physician at Pedatric Associates since 2015. Dr. Jones loves taking care of children from infants to young adults. She has a special interest in obesity and nutrition, asthma management and dermatology.
Dr. Jones and her husband have two young children. When she is not chasing after them, she enjoys cooking, reading, watching cheesy television shows and daydreaming about owning chickens.

Jay M. Gillenwater M.D., FAAP
Dr. Gillenwater grew up in Charlottesville, VA. After completing undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia, he worked doing research in Seattle, Washington. He subsequently attended medical school at the University of Washington. His pediatric residency was completed at the University of North Carolina. He worked in private practice in Raleigh, NC until 2000, accepting a position on the faculty of the University of Virginia. He joined Pediatric Associates in 2016. Dr. Gillenwater enjoys patients of every age, finding developmental issues and cardiology particularly interesting.
He is married and has four children. He enjoys animals and the outdoors, camping, hiking, geocaching. He is also very involved in the scouting program.
